I tend to agree, though Trebuchet is not really difficult to come by; the
packages that everyone uses are freely redistributable (then MS changed the
EULA).

Besides that, if Trebuchet is *the* GNOME font, then wouldn't we want to
use the font for poster headlines, etc.? 

No, I think there's good reasons to have different important typefaces for
different purposes (grab your Red Hat branding guide and see the section
about poster fonts vs. title fonts). :-)
