You said that you have just upgraded your OS, so the issue could be due
to an interaction between ekiga and your system.
In Edit->Account there could be additional information about why
registration fails.
An additional problem is that your -d 4 log is almost empty, due to a
build misconfiguration.
I strongly suggest to upgrade ekiga to 4.0.0 at least.

ok, locating that version is a bit harder than I hoped. I also learnt that in the past (i.e. a few days ago) the version I used
was 3.2.6 and worked. Unless it has been changed, which seems unlikely, it should work now also. Is there a "force proper
functioning" option somewhere, or at least an "explain what the error is" button?

It is. 3.2.6 is very old and not maintained. Please use at least 4.0.0
version of ekiga.

Dear people from Ekiga,
Ekiga gives me the message "could not register". I've filled in everything correctly, but alas... I use
easypeasy on a netbook. It used to work (more or less) ok, but after reinstalling easypeasy Ekiga decided to stop
working properly.
Is there a way to convince Ekiga to revert back to its normal behaviour?
You need to send us the -d 4 log, cf.
