Hello. I am a moderately knowledgeable linux user trying to get Ekiga to work again. It has worked for me before on this laptop but ony with totally unsecured free wireless- no encrypton and probably no one else on the dhcp server.
At the moment I have a router with my MAC addres bound to a particular non-routable IP (192.168.0.100). I can surf thru the router and the IP my machine gets from the router is the one I have bound:
>ifconfig wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx inet
addr:192.168.0.100 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500
Metric:1 RX packets:8887 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:8135 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:4673295 (4.4 Mb) TX bytes:1470740 (1.4 Mb)
On the router config screens I have ports forwarded to my bound IP per instructions at http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Enable_port_forwarding_manually

However when I start
Ekiga it gives the dreaded message: Ekiga did not manage to configure your network settings automatically. You can still use it, but you need to configure your network settings manually.
Please see http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Enable_port_forwarding_manually for instructions
Very oddly, this seems to be intermittent. It did work once last night, but after exiting and restarting ekiga (but not restarting or otherwise touching the router), it gives the dreaded message again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
