Just out of interest, are you using single core machines?  One user
reported on the launchpad bug that the problem ceased to manifest itself
when he used a dual-core machine.  There looks to be a race condition
and if the effect differs with the number of cores it would most likely
be caused by an incorrect use of threads.

Since (I believe) ekiga is not multi-threaded but opal is, it may be a
problem with the way in which ekiga interfaces with opal.  I had a
quick look at the ekiga and opal code but the relationships between the
library components was too complex, and my knowledge of voip too
limited, to make very much sense of it.
