You do not have to uninstall Skype, and IMO Ekiga has better sound
quality, probably due to better jitter buffer implementation (based on
my experience with Ekiga 2.0.12).

Also, in Ekiga you have a possibility to choose the codec of your liking,
thus making it more suitable for the communication channel at your 
disposal.
