What does it tell you :
pkg-config ptlib --modversion

$ pkg-config ptlib --modversion
Package ptlib was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `ptlib.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'ptlib' found

# locate ptlib.pc
/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ekiga/win32/diff/ptlib_ptlib.pc.in
/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ekiga/win32/diff/.svn/text-base/ptlib_ptlib.pc.in.svn-base
/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ptlib/ptlib.pc
/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ptlib/ptlib.pc.in
/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ptlib/.svn/text-base/ptlib.pc.in.svn-base

$ PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/home/gerard/tampon/sources/ptlib ./configure --enable-avahi --disable-scrollkeeper

....
....

checking for PTLIB... yes
checking for OPAL... configure: error: Package requirements (opal >= 3.3.0) were not met:

No package 'opal' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables OPAL_CFLAGS
and OPAL_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

How could i specify *two* different PKG_CONFIG_PATH, one for ptlib and one for opal ?
