Re: [Ekiga-list] problem with 120 Spacecam

Hi Jonathan
I just added it to /etc/hotplug/blacklist - to stop hotplug from using it.
I added:-
#webcam drivers
sn9c102
to the bottom of the list and that seemed to do the job - there are some instructions in the file.

PS In case this works and you begin to think I know what I'm doing - this suggestion originally came from Michel Xhaard ( mxhaard magic fr - he wrote the spca module). If you're still having trouble, try mailing him - he was a great help with my problems.

Hi Jonathan
I had a similar problem - stopping modprobe loading both the spca5xx and sn9c102 modules fixed it for me. The spca5xx worked with everything where the sn9c102 only half worked with some programs.

Hi Ekiga-ers,
This is a real puzzler and a challenge to all. I'm running Ekiga 2.0.3
on Debian Lenny with
a 2.6.18-4-686 kernel. My DM is KDE somewhere between 3.5.5 and 3.5.7 as
the KDE updates trickle down to testing. I rescued a Trust 120 Spacecam USB
webcam that my friend was throwing out because he couldn't get it to work
on windows ;-). I rescued it from the dustbin and found that it worked well
(it's a cheap camera so "well" means it produced a recognisable image) with
the spca5xx driver. The driver stopped working when I upgraded my kernel
and I couldn't find the source code to rebuild it for the new kernel. After
a few months I noticed that there was a Debian package spca5xx-source and I
could build the module for my kernel and it worked!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the speedy answer, David. I'm not really sure about the
relation between the spca5xx and the sn9c102 modules. Anway, I can give
it a try. Is the best way to prevent it from loading to remove
sn9c102.ko from the lib/modules/2.6.18-4-686/modules.dep file?
Cheers,
Jonathan
