I had a look, and gstreamer 1.0 doesn't have GstPropertyProbe anymore ; 
the gstreamer developers suggest using gudev, which is linux-only.

That is quite a big loss of feature, so I think we should stick to 0.10 
until they get their *future* new api into a *now* new api!
