I gave your reply a little bit more thought, and it is a very good idea. However, I wanted to present a possible scenario to you:

Audacity is probably the most popular free software sound editor while Ekiga is probably the most popular telephony program. Both are extremely good at what they do.



Imagine this hypothetical scenario:

• My friend, Andrew Weber, and I host a Linux podcast. We have Richard Stallman on as an upcoming guest.
  
• Andrew has been held late at work, so I start recording the show using my usb microphone and Audacity on my local home pc.
  
• 30 minutes after I start the show, Andrew gets home and makes a sip call to me using Ekiga.
  

This is why I propose the plugin solution. The plugin in would add an Ekiga bar to Audacity, or something similar. In anticipation of Andrew's call, I could have had
the Ekiga bar open, ready for the call.

• Audacity's Ekiga plugin picks up the call, and I hit a button to add it to the recorded streams.
• A few minutes later, Richard Stallman calls in using Ekiga, and gets added to the recording.

It seems to me that it would be more efficient to leverage the existing capabilities of both Ekiga and Audacity and play towards their strengths. For example, a "record call using Audacity button" could be added to Ekiga that would start Audacity up instead of having to write a whole new addition to Ekiga. I can easily see how the two projects could develop a lot of interrelationship.

These are just a few ideas. Thank you for your time!

Hi,

I do not know much how oggcasts work, so I might be wrong.  Isn't the
following solution envisageable?  You speak to Mr. Stallman with ekiga,
you record your conversation (using the not-yet possibility of ekiga to
record streams), and afterwards you put the file in oggcast syndication.

So why do you need to create a plugin instead of fixing ekiga to accept
conversation recording?
