It's been a while since I worked on the MP4 support actively, and as far as I know 2.2.6 should be as good as the 2.4 series in that regard, but please let me know with a bug report if you find a problem.

I am running openSUSE 13.2 64 bit with KDE desktop and have Easytag
version 2.2.6-8.3 from my repo site. I have downloaded the latest
version but would appreciate some guidance on how to install. Should I
uninstall package manager version then run installation using configure,
make, install etc?
Real beginner here so would appreciate some guidance please.

It is probably easier to grab a more recent version from openSUSE in some way, or otherwise produce an updated package for yourself. I do not know much about how openSUSE works in terms of release and development branches, but I found:

http://software.opensuse.org/package/easytag

This suggests that you could grab 2.4.0 or 2.4.1 from Leap or Tumbleweed, respectively. I do not know if you have the required versions of GLib, GTK+ and the other dependencies installed.

If you decide to build EasyTAG yourself, be aware that 2.4.0 and above using GSettings for storing user preferences, so you may need to set XDG_DATA_DIRS (there is a brief note about it in the README, but please ask if you need more guidance).
