What do you mean when you say that titles with hyphens do not work? For Vorbis comments (found in Ogg and FLAC containers), there is a feature which splits a tag field into multiple fields as if " - " were a separator, but this should not be the case for MP3 files with ID3 tags. You can control whether the tag splitting feature is enabled in the preferences.
Please describe in more detail what you are trying to do and how it does not work.
