Actually, it is not a speedy reply, but I suggest another software: sweethome3d
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sweethome3d/It is written in Java. You can easily create a 3D view of your building, arrange furniture on it, etc... At least, visit the site ;)
I think it fits your needs, a good looking homework would help you with your assignment...
