Now I understand.

Yes.  I tried both. 
"Portable Network Graphics (*.png) produced
Anti-Alias.
The other did not (staircase lines).

This feature is not obvious.
Perhaps the menu item could indicate it:
"Portable Network Graphics [Anti-Alias] (*.png)"?
