I've produced version 0.4 of the Dia VDX import plug-in - it can be found at
http://www.redferni.uklinux.net/dia/vdx/
This version has the geometry to convert Visio's elliptical arc-based curves to Dia's Bezier-based ones - it will never be a perfect conversion, but the results look pretty good. It also adds initial support for backgrounds and Masters. Some of the example diagrams I've been sent now display about as well as they ever will without significant additions to Dia (such as patterned fills, text rotation, or formatting within text objects).
It fixes a potential crash on bad input, and improves handling of a few rare cases, such as disconnected shapes.
Layout is still a bit off in many cases, particularly of text, Layers need reordering, text formatting is mostly absent and arrow sizing is wrong (Visio isn't linear). I also need to add shape rotation/reflection for more than just lines, and many other small adjustments. Most pictures do at least give a general idea of the contents, however.
I'd be interested in feedback from anyone who's used it, and, as always, I'd appreciate more real-world diagrams to try it against.
Ian Redfern.
