Hi,

Probably it is time to drop autogen.sh. Most modern distributions come 
with autoreconf, which does the autogen.sh job. Usually, just a 
autoreconf -if works fine. Since this is only a developer concern, I 
think it is ok to limit the audience able to create their own configure 
script.
