Text selection in Dia

Hi,

For some strange reason I can't find a way to select text in dia.
Shift + arrow does not work, neither does Ctrl+A.
Also the toolbox does not remember my line width selection.
I'm using Dia 0.93 in Gentoo Linux with xfce4 desktop.
