I think "ObjectS" was "right".
Menus should be, as much as possible, organized as phrases:

I admit I have not checked any authorative sources yet (I'll probably
ask on the usability mailing list) but you will have to if you want to
convince me because others agree with me.
nope.
I am not trying to convince you, just giving my opinion ;)
you just dont see plurars in menus very often.
and I guess you are not willing to convince me :)
While you are experiencing with menus, you may play with that:
In the diagram window, "File" could be renamed to "Diagram":
Not an idea I'd go for.
Some applications have Game instead of File but applictions that do this
are very rare.
"rare" is not the point. By it's GUI choice (the application window) dia
is rare. The point is that the two "File" menues, with different
content, are (IMHO) confusing. Renaming one of them may give:
<app> <diagram>
1. File Diagram
2. Diagrams(?) File
I have (personaly) preference with the first one.
What do you think?
"Layer" as a separate menu.
that was what I was suggesting, the gist of it can be seen in the menus.c
file I linked to
looks good!
With dia, "File" could be renamed to "dia".

I think it was sodipodi that tried something like that.
It is not something I'd go for either.
The changes you suggest seem quite a bit more dramatic than the ones I am
planning, I may reevalute them later.
Dramatic is may be a bit strong :)
To be clear, I was more inviting to "play with that", as I said, trying
something different, which somehow makes sense (at least to me ;)
I was not requesting urgent update, otherwise I would have use C
language, which is the one that dia developers understand the best!
Dramatic regards,
