I also use Dia roughly this way for its good PostScript
support, so I'd also like to see it continue to evolve more
general drawing support.

sometimes be useful to you.  I have heard good things
about it.
I just tried IPE. It does'nt look bad. However it has
limited arrow support and no editable bezier curves.
