That's one way to describe it. Also, there is a z-ordering on the layers.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what's z-ordering?
Ordering on the Z plane, that is, the 3rd dimension. Usually this is thought
of as "up" and "down". So i assume this means that layers that are on "top"
obscure layers that are "under" them.
