Oh, I see. You need the z and f options to tar (perhaps checking tar(1)'s
manual page would help). You'd probably be better off downloading a binary
package tailored to your distribution, though: what you'll see in the
tarball you mentioned is only source files and makefiles, you'll then need
to build the program (there is a generic README on how to do that, IIRC).
