Desktop background during initialization

Hi,

I use VNC to connect remote gnome desktop on Linux CentOS. Due to slow
network, it displayed a blank window frame (X windows) in more than 1
minute before the desktop menu and backgrounds is initialized. Is
there any way to put some message "please wait ..." on the blank
window background before the desktop finalized?
