And worse, you couldn't run systemd and CK side by side any more, as
CK would trample over systemd's namespace. But for migrating to
systemd this is necessary for a while, until all packages in a distro
have been ported.

I think that Ubuntu, BSD, etc. should not try to put a half-arsed
reimplementation of logind into CK, that's only going to cause
confusion as you said; I think it is much cleaner to patch
gnome-session and g-s-d to use CK instead of logind; after all, that
code exists and works, you just need to maintain the patches for newer
upstream versions. That's a fair price to pay IMHO.
