two choices dangerous for Gnome 3

Hello everyone.

Recently, I see you make 2 choice really criticized by users:
- Remove the posibility to choose what the laptop do when the lid is
closed (in power settings).
- Remove the idle of the screen after some times with no activity (in
screen settings)

Although I do not understand the logic that led to this (if anyone can
explain why?), now don't write this e-mail as a user, don't as a
programmer but as an electronics engineer.

With the first choice, user can't disable auto-standby, of its laptop,
when the lid is closed. So, if he don't want, or can't, turn laptop to
standby (download, IRC chats, etc), it need to keep the lid open and
it's keep the screen ON.

With the second choice, user can't idle the screen if he don't use its
laptop.

So, to summarize, if user don't want to stop the activity of its laptop,
it need to keep its display on.

It's bad: LCD have a limited life time and the backlight power supply is
the main cause of failures on LCD. Even if with LED backlight this risk
is smaller, it is always present. And in laptop it's difficult to change
the screen.

That is why I ask you to reconsider these two choices, to save LCD
screen.

PS: And, secondarily, it is difficult to sleep at night if your screen
stays on.
