I'd like to propose libproxy (LGPL 2.1+;

GNOME 2.26. libproxy is currently used by vlc and neon and libsoup and
webkit are considering adopting it.
I'd happily use this in both Sound Juicer and Postr. libproxy has
Python, Java, and C# bindings, so I'm very much a +1.
Actually, our Java bindings are yet-to-be-written... :) However, the
small API enables bindings to be written easier.
