Re: gnome-panel ideas: combined launcher/taskbar/system tray

Hi,

Would be nice to have tabbed metacity with single instance app, allowing
Epiphany, Gimp, Abiword, inkscape to have transparent tab interface.
Opera is right when it put the tabs *above* content (like adress bar,
etc.). I really think that tabbed browsing in epiphany, firefox and such
is just a workaround of lames of windows manager.

System tray is different from Notification area. System tray is for
network, bluetooth, updates, volume, etc. Notification area is for mail,
rss, IM, etc. Notification area should really be merged in taskbar.

Another good ability would be to hide process (similar to Mac OS). This
would hide process from taskbar except for notification. Just like if it
were on another hidden desktop.

About the aesthetic. I suggest a list of buttons without border at all.
Only on mouse over, just like toolbar.

That's very good to see some work on merging launcher/taskbar/system
tray. Keep up the good work and don't forget to release early/release
often ;)

Regards,
ienne.
