in fact, Totem only paints the window when a video is playing, in the
area where a video is playing. Put a video with an aspect ratio
different from your monitor's to full screen, move the mouse, and wait
for the interface to dissapear, and parts of the interface will remain
in those parts that are not being re-painted.
Should be a bug open about this, but I can't find it at the moment.
