As another release-team person, I think this is the right decision.

In this case I am completely ignorant of the technical issues, but there
are enough objections from some smart people. However, I would not want
to punt this again at 2.11/2.12 if the situation stays the same.

So please do make the use of libgnomesu optional at compile-time.
