This may be a bit late in the discussion, but someone suggested I
propose my SmoothGNOME theme for the default GNOME theme.

Its a simple theme, using the Smooth engine, and colors from the HIG
palette. Its got a few known problems, in particular the menu check
items are nasty, but I'm formulating a plan to fix them.
