GtkFileChooser: Opening from/saving to remote files in desktop applications?

When playing around with the file chooser I noted that none of the core
desktop applications supports opening from or saving to remove URLs
through the GtkFileChooser. That is unbearable because in an integrated
world being able to open files from WebDAV, sftp or other locations is
essential. Epiphany, File-Roller, GEdit and GPDF should all support
that. I've filed bugs against all these products in bugzilla:
