Shutdown options

There had been talk of allowing the option of shutting down the computer when  
the user selects Actions/Logoff. One version I installed for my brother did  
this.

I haven't seen it in my version(s) as I upgraded. Do I need to enable  
something, or did this appear for a while and go away.

I'm using Debian Testing / Gnome 2.4
