gnome-theme-manager ate my baby

Well, sort of. I had to reboot today, because gnome-theme-manager ate
my machine. That's... not good. Sadly, not the first time, but the
last couple times I said 'surely, someone else will notice and this
will be fixed by the next release'. This time I'm not being slack-
I've filed a bug about gnome-theme-manager performance:

and judging from comments in #gnome-art, i'm not the first to be
bitten by this (though AFAICT I'm the first to file a bug about it,
which is pretty poor on my part.)

Anyway... I'd really love it if someone could take a look at it. It's
pretty embarassing that we ship something as part of the desktop that
can cause such extreme system loads under even casual use.
