Nice (I see some important crash/memleak fixes in there too).
We could probably just keep a counter on each tree node for total number
of values recursively under that node (if you add/remove a value you
walk up to the root updating all ancestor's counts). Then we could base
whether to split up the tree on the tree size. It's a thought anyway,
maybe total crack.
