While I haven't looked into it extensively, I know that Gecko supports
editing, at the very least you can set the document.innerHTML attribute
and fake it ;-P
Given the extensive DOM support in Gecko, I'd think that implementing an
editing engine on top of that wouldn't be *too* difficult. Also, I
don't know much about it, but according to the release notes Mozilla 1.3
adds a preliminary version of the new "Midas" editing interface.
