But if the GNOME default really sucks for a certain application, and the
author knows it, wouldn't this just be an "unbreak me"-option that people
have strived so hard to remove?
I'm of the opinion that every application should be usable without any
configuration whatsoever (except for obvious things like
email-configuration). Consistency is nice, but it also has a price which
should be considered. For word processors "text below icons" just plain
sucks, since there are too many toolbars, and afaik it is actually the
default toolbar-style for the GNOME-desktop.
