Actually OSX's Finder in "Browser" mode (which is similar to it's
open/save dialog, but bigger) [optinally] has a pane on the right with
(if possible) a preview. For images, it's a thumbnail, for
movies/mp3s/AAC/etc. it's a small playable control, for PDFs its a
thumbnail of the first page.
