I meant a 3rd release set. So you have:

Developer platform: Libraries
GNOME Desktop: Essentials (nautilus, panel, control-center and so on)
New release set: GNOME software; the characteristic of this release set
is just "very good software" and it can contain more than one app for
each task, so it could contain epiphany and galeon.

There's a sort-of rationale in my first e-mail: this is the release set
for people who want to choose and download their own software but don't
want to waste time looking at every available app for the task, but just
the best.

Distributions would probably release the Platform, Desktop, and a single
favoured application for each task from the "Good software" release set
(eg. epiphany _or_ galeon).

So it looks something like this.

|----------------------|
| Platform |
|--------------------- |
           |
           |
           |
|----------------------|
| Desktop |
|--------------------- |
           |
           |
           |
|----------------------| |----------------------|
| Good software |<--------| Fifth Toe |
|--------------------- | |----------------------|

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Distributions distribute This is a staging area _but_
selected software from this all software has to be actively
bit; geeks have a choice maintained to stay in it. Dead
of which software _they_ projects are dropped.
want to use from the
"Good software" release.

Then we don't bloat the "Desktop" with lots of bits of software from
everything.
