In autohiding there is only one direction, i.e., it moves out of the screen
completely on a focus out. If you observe closely the difference on explicitly
hiding the panel on clicking the either of the buttons, the button will still
remain inside the screen.

So, to be precise, there is no relationship between the buttons you seen on either
end of the panel and autohiding.
