Hi,
There are 2 ways of hiding the panel.
a) Explicit hide
The arrows that you see on either end are for explicit hide, i.e. you click
on them and the panel hides itself.
b) Autohide
When you move the focus out of the panel, it gets hidden.
The option you set in the panel properties is for Autohide option.
