Might this be good opportunity to look at new "document" handling in general?
People have asked for something like MS Explorer's desktop New menu. This
is the one that has Folder and Shortcut above a separator and other items
like "Text Document" and "Microsoft Word Document", depending on what's
installed, below. It's is a very basic template system. A complete template
system would allow any file to be used as a template (see OS/2).
With somesuch system, the runtime check would be for the existence of a
panel template. Applications would be expected to provide template info
as they now provide .desktop files and MIME data.
