Erms... hello?? :) The most destructive options should NEVER be the
default action!
So you think the computer should assume that you didn't want to do what
you told it to do? This was one of the more annoying aspects of many
gnome 1.x programs. You ask it to do something, and it pops up a dialog
with the default response being the opposite of what you just asked.
I think it's pretty clear why :)... remember that recovering files is
pretty hard... so the dialog's only reason to exist is give an ultimate
last option out! Plus, the user can set the option of not showing the
confirm dialog, so that's one more reason to not set the most
destructive option as the default.
Yes it is a destructive action. That is why a confirmation dialog is
displayed. (if it wasn't destructive, it would be better not to show a
dialog at all, so that people pay attention to the ones that do popup).
