time applet in the default GNOME2 panel

Id like to start a discussion on this before i send any bug reports.
Shouldn't the time applet in the default gnome2 panel be configurable
for to use a different calendar program than the original default
calendar program for gnome.
I'm using the ximian snaps. I not even sure the panel is part of gnome2
i'm just assuming.
