The "dependency" exists as a platform-independent implementation for
getting system information.  The procman/g-s-m UI is quite nice... if
libgtop doesn't suit your needs fix it... otherwise you're duplicating
an awful lot of effort and fragmenting consistency between platforms. 
Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
