You were using rules of the form
%.o : %.c command...
This is not strictly correct for gmake.
OK, but you said that the ; might not be portable? So my question is,
is it a good idea to commit this patch to CVS? If we agree on that,
then feel free to commit Jacob.
Or is Jody's idea better? and portable?
