  wouldn't it be better if GNOME supported some mechanism to switch 
applications while dragging and dropping?
  In Windows you can hover on the taskbar while dragging an object to 
activate another window or you can switch windows wit Alt-Tab while 
still maintaining your dragged object... I don't know, maybe there is 
some X blocking issue here...
