I really really need a patch to this document for any extensions we're
using. I thought George had hashed this out with the KDE panel guys.
My memory of the thread is that no one had objections to his proposal.

Oh, another useful thing is the desktop-file-validator module in CVS. 
All our .desktop files should pass that. Maybe let your testing team
know about it.
