For my calculator, I did two operations, so it looks like it has a
pretty big leak.

I dunno. Startup times seem to be quite a bit slower, and drawing seems
a little sluggish, but then again, I am spoiling myself with AA fonts.
Are you using GDK_USE_XFT? Is the overhead here Pango/client-side
rendering?
