It isn't going to jeopardize anything. Everyone is using 1.4 already,
this doesn't break or modify any makefiles.
We have to get 2.0.x using the -1.4 automake names, or people can't
upgrade to automake-1.6 while retaining the ability to build the 2.0.x
branches. e.g. right this minute I can't build the 2.0.x branches on
my machine that I upgraded to the Red Hat beta.
I'll wait until after 2.0.1 but it needs to go in as a goal of 2.0.2.
