Asking gnome-power-manager is the most portable option. But in Dapper we
have a file /var/run/laptop-mode-state which this line when the ac is
disconnected:
start,0
and this when ac is connected:
stop,1

laptop-mode-tools are resposible of setting the harddrive sleep mode and
such when the power is disconnected. It in turn depends on various tools
to do the detection.

That wouldnt work for users not running gnome. As of now, beagled (the
daemon/service running in the background) doesnt require any specific
DE to be running.
There must a sane way to get power information... maybe some interface
exposed by /sys ? some ioctl ?

Hi,

Depending on gnome-power-manager won't play nicely with the non-UI
builds and wont make the KDE people happy.

Just simple patch that disables the building of bludgeon unless
specifically requested. Seeing as most people don't use it.
