Child Indexables

I started rooting through the bugzilla looking for old/lost patches
that never made it in and revived a couple of them. Most of my time
and energy has been spent fiddling with the child indexables and the
FilterArchive.cs. I find the issue to be that while the archives are
extracted and indexed successfully, all the content is indexed under
one 'document' or 'hit' or 'result' (depending on our terminology). I
was just wondering if there was a concrete plan to revive these lost
children etc. and if so, what is the major blocker on this? (not in
the 'hurry up' way, but in the 'what's actually stopping us from
proceeding' way).
