    appDisplay: Connect to GSettings after reading key
    
    As per GSettings documentation, it is necessary to read a particular
    key at least once before being able to connect to the corresponding
    'changed::' signal.
    
    Read the 'app-picker-layout' key before connecting to the changed
    signal.
